Mermaid Jar

Part of a mermaid series I did a couple years ago. This one was published in Spectrum 23. I wanted to play with the idea of loss, especially pertaining to ideals or dreams (represented by a fantasy creature). Also the sadness yet beauty in killing something so innocent like this. I tried to convey it too like it was done by an amateur who sort of crammed it into an ordinary jar and wasn't some professional thing for a scientific purpose. Putting it in a jar is like packing it away too, putting it to rest, to be forgotten.
